VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation is happy to announce the recipients of their 2019 Community Grant Round.
The following is a news release from Andrea Nelson Executive Director of the Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation:
“Thanks to generous donors and a successful fundraising event last fall we were able to award $34,750 to thirteen nonprofits in Barnes, Griggs and Ransom Counties. This portion highlights the grants that were awarded in rural Barnes and Ransom County.
Litchville Fire Department received $2,000 to purchase SCBA Air Tanks as their current set of air tanks are set to expire on Jan 2020 and will no longer be compliant. “As a firefighter, we need to have the proper equipment going into a burning building and not have the potential to fail and put our lives at unnecessary risk.” said Tony Bruse, Assistant Fire Chief. “Our air tanks need to be certified every 5 years and expire after 15 years of service.” Continued Bruse. The Litchville Fire Department also provides aid to rural Hastings, Kathryn, Marion, Sanborn and Lamoure Fire Departments.
Kathryn Quick Response Unit was awarded $600 to purchase two high visibility convertible coats that will help identify and improve the safety of emergency responders when called to an accident on the roadways. The Kathryn Quick Response Unit is made up of two EMT’s and six EMR’s who work with the Barnes County Ambulance Service and Mercy Hospital. They also assist other rural departments as needed. “We are thankful for this grant opportunity as safety of our responders is a top priority and allows us to address a need.” Said Eric Nelson, Chief of Kathryn Quick Response Unit.
H.E.A.R.T. Helping Enderlin Area Residents Thrive was awarded $1,500 to support their volunteer program which provides transportation of their elderly community to medical appointments, shopping, beauty needs and church services. “We are extremely proud to offer our services free to all participants and assist our elders to remain independent and safe in their homes.” Said Tracy Ekeren, Program Director, HEART. “Thank you to the SVCF for helping to provide funds for gas cards to defer some of the costs our volunteers incur through their volunteerism and assisting in the production of our newsletter.”
