VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUVikings.com)-Valley City State University junior Phillip Almanza has been named the North Star Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week after firing a 12-strikeout shutout on Sunday.

Phillip Almanza – Valley City State (N.D.) – 5’9″ – Junior – Pitcher – Santa Maria, Calif. – Almanza pitched a complete game nine-inning shutout in Valley City State’s (N.D.) 5-0 victory over Viterbo (Wis.).  VCSU went 2-0 record for the week.  He struck out a total of 12 batters, the most in a single game by any North Star pitcher this season.  Almanza gave up just five hits in the game and did not issue a walk.  In his three appearances in NSAA conference play, he has allowed just one earned run in 18 innings.
