JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public School board approved of an agreement with the Jamestown Fine Arts Association to help provide artists in residence for the 2019-20 school year.
During the school board meeting Monday evening, members of the Jamestown Fine Arts Association provided some information about the Arts Center.
“We are the venue that brings fine art exhibitions, cultural festivals, readings and humanities presentations, community theater, art classes, workshops ,and more to the area,” the organizations presentation reads. “Our programs reach every age group, sector, and social group in our community.”
The Artist in Residence program started in 1982 and is the oldest program at the Arts Center. This program brings in teaching artists in Jamestown Elementary Schools and is the sole provider of Visual Arts Education in the Schools.
“[It’s a] unique opportunity [to] study with professional artists. The Arts Center provides a studio and apartment space for resident artists.”
In an agreement with the school, the Arts Center will provide their artists in residence for all classrooms in grades K-5 as well as in-service opportunities with artists for teachers and additional services in collaboration with and as desired by the middle and high schools.
The agreement was unanimously approved at a cost of $22,500 to the school system for the year.
In other school news, several resignations and hires were approved. Superintendent Rob Lech also provided an update on the Roosevelt Boiler Project. He says they have been working with Obermiller Nelson Engineering (ONE) firm. ONE will be conducting site visits to develop an engineering plan and will also conduct all bid work, lead the bid opening, and assist in the preparation of contracts.
