JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Cargill Malt Plant has made plans to appeal the counties appraisal according to Tax Director Tyler Perleberg.

Perleberg says the company made their announcement at the Spiritwood Equalization meeting Monday night.

Perleberg informed the Stutsman County Commission that Cargill would be bringing in an appraiser from Fargo. He says the negotiation on appraisal had also been brought forth in 2007. The same appraiser was brought on then too.

Perleberg says the appeal of the appraisal puts the county in a bind, but he doesn’t expect a final decision until things are reviewed. He pointed out that officials of Cargill have also talked about uses for the malt plant now that it’s closed.

Perleberg says there’s absolutely nothing in the bins or the buildings at the site.

The Cargill Malt Plant closed in October 2018 after it was learned that there was reduced demand for 6-row crops in North Dakota.
