Charlotte Joyce Carow (Ames), 83, formerly of Edgeley passed away March 31, 2019 at Serenity Memory Care Center, Dilworth, Minnesota where she resided for the past few months.
Charlotte’s story began on April 13, 1935 in Jamestown, ND. Her parents, William and Bluette Ames from Spiritwood, North Dakota, which is where Charlotte’s childhood stories take place. She graduated from Jamestown High School and began to work for the telephone company in Jamestown, ND. Shortly after she met the love of her life and they united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Carow on November 6, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Edgeley, ND. Charlotte and Bob spent many happy hardworking years on the family farm Northeast of Edgeley.
Bob and Charlotte relished in the idea of a large family, which lead to Charlotte being a homemaker raising 7 children. After Bob’s passing and the children were grown, Charlotte began working again. She was an Avon Lady for over 25 years. She enjoyed cooking lunches at the Senior Citizens Center and making dinner once a week for men’s night at the Edgeley Country Club. Charlotte was also involved with many church activities and was a member of LWML.
While raising children, Charlotte was known to be passing on family traditions to her children, teaching them to bake, sew, can and craft. Charlotte enjoyed spending time with her family in many faucets, but loved leisure activities with them putting puzzles together and playing games; especially Canasta. She taught her children and grandchildren to play so there was never an excuse to not play! Charlotte also enjoyed hobbies such as stamp and coin collecting, quilting at church and crocheting.
Charlotte will be remembered as a selfless, altruistic woman who always had a smile, even when times were tough. She had a quiet strength and was the rock of her family. She never complained, just looked forward knowing God had a better future in store.
Charlotte is survived by her children, Robin (Cheryl) Carow, Becky Carow, Sharon DuSharm, Linda (Gordy) Braathen, Stacey (Bernie) Retzlaff and Marcy (Dave) Jawaski, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren a brother, Eldred Ames and a sisters in law, Lorraine Flatau and Jacki Ames. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bluette, her husband Robert, son Reed Carow, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Charlotte’s Family would like to give special thanks to Serenity Memory Care Center and Hospice of the Red River Valley. She will be dearly missed by her family.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 4th from 4-7, with a prayer service at 7 pm and funeral services on Friday April 5th at 10 a.m. All taking place at Zion Lutheran Church, Edgeley, ND. The Williams Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
