VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jefferson STEAM kids took a field trip to see the Washington STEAM Science Fair to begin brainstorming what they would like to select for their own science fair. Once they selected a topic, the kids had 3 days to research, create their presentation, and construct their interactive demonstration. The kids then presented their science fair project to parents, Washington STEAM, the School Board, and teachers.
Jessica Sanden Library Media Specialist and STEAM After School Program Coordinator said there are two STEAM After School Programs at VCPS, Jefferson STEAM (2nd-3rd) and Washington STEAM (4th-6th).
Washington is run by Sanden and Ashley Kellogg and Jefferson is run by Holly Olauson and April Berntson.
Sanden said the program is designed for students to explore passions in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Each month they run a different “STEAM theme” and can have up to 20 kids each month. The program is funded through SEEC.
