VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- A dominate run through the EDC Tournament and a 5th place finish at state highlighted a record setting season for Valley City Fastpitch. This year The Hi-Liners will see changes come from their leadership both with a new head coach and several seniors moving into new roles on the team.

Hilary Flatt was named the new head coach earlier this month. Flatt has been a part of the program for 5 seasons as an assistant. Having an established relationship with the players along with the return of the remaining coaching staff has made the changeover seamless

Valley City will lean on 5 seniors to help provide the on field leadership, right now it matter of figuring out what works best for them

Of the entire roster, 5 players have seen significant playing time with several others having some varsity action. Returning are 2 all conference seniors, outfielder Grace Scherr and pitcher Becca Thompson along with all conference sophomore pitcher Hailey Schaefer.

Thompson, who was all state in 2018, and Schaefer formed a powerful pitching duo last year that held a combined ERA of 1.67. Having stability and experience in the pitching circle will be particularly important through the earlier parts of the season when the rest of the line up is still being sorted out

Valley City is scheduled to start their season April 5th playing Bismarck on the road. Their first home game is set for April 16th against Shanley.
