ELLENDALE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Dickey County Emergency Manager Charlie Russell is keeping an eye on water movement and levels across the county as spring melt continues.
“Water is flowing in the Western county spreading rapidly east,” Russell pointed out. “Water is over the roads in several places. The slow melt has been caused by the cool temperatures and from the water having to cut through wind-formed dikes.”
Russell says the dikes were laid out on a NW-SE line and were apparently created by the wind. He says this causes the water to zig-zag instead of running under the snow until it breaks.
As far as the roads, Russell says those will continue to go under.
“Roads will continue to go under until the systems fully open up. Be extremely careful out there motoring around.”
Russell will continue to provide updates as the situation continues. You can stay up to date on all the latest water levels with NewsDakota’s Water Watch here.
