JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Dollars for Scholars organization is continuing to collect shoes for their ongoing shoe drive.
Dollars for Scholars provides relief to post secondary students in the district with scholarship opportunities through fundraising and investments. New this year is the shoe drive, which is sending new and lightly used shoes to micro-enterprise vendors in Third World countries, which is then sold and used to stimulate their economies.
Funds are then given back to the district for the scholarships and programs that benefit the community. Sites across the community continue to accept shoes for the drive.
“As of March 19th, 1,750 pairs of shoes have been collected toward the 7,500 pair goal,” stated DeAnn Ament, vice president and marketing chair for the Jamestown Dollars for Scholars Board. “There are more shoes to be counted and bagged.”
Shoes can range from infant to adult sized and all styles are accepted.
“The community has been so supportive donating their new and gently used shoes, Dollars for Scholars is confident we can reach our goal with the continued support of Jamestown and the surrounding communities,” Ament added.
