FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Flood preparations are well under way in Cass County, ND for possible historic flooding this spring. i3G Media reporter Erick Johnson talked with Cass County Engineer Jason Benson on Thursday to get the latest information.
Benson says they are anticipating significant flooding on the Red River and its tributaries in Cass County. So they are ramping up the Counties sandbag operation. They are planning to have it up and running by next Wednesday (March 27th). The County will make about 200,000 to 300,000 sandbags in the next week to 10 days to get out to their rural residents who live along the Red River, Sheyenne River, Maple River, and other tributary’s.
We asked Benson what the biggest concern is for Cass County, river flooding or overland flooding. Benson said both. He said for people living in the Hickson area along the Red, as well as Gardner and Grandin areas should expect a 38 foot river level or more. He also said those living along the Sheyenne, especially those living north of West Fargo should expect at or the worst conditions that they have ever seen. He said they are expecting the severe overland flooding will continue all the way up to the Harwood and Argusville areas that could last for days or weeks, leaving residents stranded.
