JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Driver safety, fines, and fees have been topics of concern for members of the North Dakota Legislature.

First-term Jamestown Representative Bernie Satrom (R) voted against a bill that would make adults primary enforcement for wearing seat belts. This would ultimately require everyone, regardless of age, to wear a seat belt. Satrom says the statistics do not show a need for it.

The House also approved a bill last week that would double the fees to purchase a driver’s license from $15 to $30. Satrom believes that this would help support the costs needed for licenses.

The bill heads to Governor Doug Burgum’s desk for his signature.

The House passed a resolution this month that would allow for a study traffic fines and fees. Satrom was the only legislator representing Stutsman County to vote for the measure. He says that this is an opportunity to see if any changes can be made.

The Legislature adjourns May 2nd.
