JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Day two of the 2019 Class B Region III High School Boys Basketball tournament took place on Thursday night with two semifinal games. Here are the results:
Carrington 55 Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 53
The Imperials jumped out to an early 17-12 end of the first quarter lead, but Carrington outscored NGS in the second quarter 20-9 to take the 32-26 lead at halftime. The Imperials would tie the game at 40 early in the fourth quarter, but Senior Trey Rosenau would score seven of his game high 21 in the fourth quarter to help the Cardinals to victory and earn a spot in the region championship game for the third consecutive year. Junior Seth Nelson added 16 for the now 16-8 Cardinals, Jamison Fettig and Carson Thompson led NGS with 13 each, Ethan Kleppe added 12, the Imperials fall to 14-10 overall. Carrington shot 46% from the field, going 22 of 47. The largest lead for Carrington was eight points, there were four lead changes and two ties. Carrington is the defending region champs, beating Edgeley/KM last year, and falling to Ellendale the previous year.
Ellendale 57 RV Lamoure/Litchville/Marion 50
The Ellendale Cardinals jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and never looked back as they knock off the District V champs and advance to the Region championship game for the second time in three years. The Loboes 15 game win streak also comes to an end. Senior guard for Ellendale, Austin Molan, led all scorers with 28 points, including 12 of 14 at the charity stripe. Freshman Scott Wagner had a double-double for Ellendale, 14 points and 18 rebounds, Hunter Thorpe added 11. LLM was led by Shay Ness with 20, Alex Klever added 12. Ellendale shot 48% from the field shooting 18 of 37, and 78% at the free throw line, 18 of 23. Ellendale improves to 14-10 overall, LLM suffers just their fourth loss of the season and drops to 18-4 overall.
