JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Arguably Jamestown’s largest fundraising event, the annual Running O’ The Green continues a longstanding March tradition that has raised thousands over its history.
Event founder Larry “Knobby” Knoblich says when the event started in 1978, it was just for fun and something to do. It’s now grown into a large fundraiser for Elks Camp Grassick and local cancer patients.
Knoblich says since then, they’ve raised more than $340,000 to Camp Grassick and $110,000 to local cancer patients. He says while some turn out for the pub crawl, many are drawn to the causes that the Running O’ The Green raises money for.
Larry stated that this year’s run is also being dedicated to his late friend Dean Anderson, who passed away in 2018.
Anderson took the iconic picture of the first ever run in 1978 that can be found on this years poster. Knoblich says the t-shirt design also commemorates Anderson with the image of a leprechaun.
The event will look to continue and expand on its previous successes. The cost to enter the run is $10 and you’re encouraged to pre-register to alleviate congestion on the day of the run.
