JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The James River Humane Society has begun a feral cat program to relocate feral cats to a safer environment in the region.
The volunteer-based, non-profit, no kill shelter is seeking barns, garages, and farmsteads willing to take feral cats to provide them with a shelter and food.

James River Humane Society Board Member Jay Nitchke says they started the program last fall to help the cats during the tough winter months. She says the feral cats don’t have food on a regular basis and are fighting the elements, which many don’t make it through.

Nitchke says the location doesn’t need to have heat, but a location where the cat can receive food regularly and have some shelter. She says anyone who can offer that are encouraged to contact the James River Humane Society at 701-252-0747.

Because the humane society works as a non-profit, there’s a need for donations and fundraisers are held regularly to keep the shelter open. Nitchke says their large fundraiser is the annual Potato Bar which will be held this year on March 28th.

Nitchke says they also have several animals ready for adoption. You can find more information by visiting jamesriverhumanesociety.org.
