JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Local teens involved in the SkillsUSA program are working on using their talents to help raise mental health awareness.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industries leaders who work together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. MacKenzie Johnson is a student in the Jamestown Public School District.
Johnson says the local chapter has taken on a second platform of mental health awareness.
Madelyn Reinarts is also using SkillsUSA to build herself up in the healthcare profession.
Shayla Shauer participates in SkillsUSA in the automotive division, being one of the only girls to compete in that category.
As part of their second platform, the SkillsUSA students are bringing in Miss North Dakota International Ava Hill to speak to the school district on February 5th. Reinarts says this is all for the students.
Johnson says they’re selling “You Matter” t-shirts to the public to raise money and help raise awareness for their platform. Johnson, Reinarts, and Shauer have also recorded PSA’s with i3G Media to help promote mental health awareness.
