New Salem, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington wrestling team finished in seventh place at the 2019 East-West Classic in New Salem. The Cardinals had 7 wrestlers place in the top six including three runner up finishes. Matthew Duchscherer (106), Brecken Lura (126), and Lucas Geiszler (138) all finished in second place. Treston Lura (113), Tate Hoggarth (152), and Colton Buskness (195) all finished in fourth place. Beau Retzlaff (182) finished in sixth place. The Cardinals had 6 open weight classes in the tournament. Duchscherer lost by fall at 1:18 of the first period to top seeded Boeden Greenley of Lisbon. Lura lost his title match to top rated and undefeated Kyle Burwick of Hettinger 19-4 (technical fall), at 3:51 of the second period. Burwick improved to 45-0 with the victory.  Geiszler was defeated 9-3 in the finals by top seeded Riley Zachmeier of Rugby.

Lisbon won the tournament outscoring second place New Salem-Almont 191.5 to 188. South Border finished third, followed by Velva (134), Bowman County (133), and Napoleon(118).
