WEST FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The final 18 minutes of Friday’s game belonged to The West Fargo Sheyenne Girls; The Mustangs would outscore The Hi-Liners 35-16 to come from behind with a 57-40 EDC victory.
In the first half Valley City was able to contain Sheyenne’s offense, they kept both of their lead scorers under double figures. After 5 ties The Hi-Liners were on the right side of a 24-22 score. Coach Jimmy Howard said the first half was successful because of their commitment to the game plan
The Mustangs fell behind by 6 in the second before they began to rally. After they tied the game 28 they’d take the lead and never give it up. A 3 pointer by Joely Goodiron with 7:40 remaining in the game pulled Sheyenne in front 39-32 and created the largest separation between either team and put the momentum solely in their hands.
Fouls hampered Valley City’s offense in the second half, they were called for 13 total fouls with several being called back to back. Coach Howard kept conveying the same message to his team throughout the stretch
Maggie Manson led The Mustangs with 13 points, Yasmina Dokara had 11 and Jadyn Feist 8.
Taryn Dieterle scored 17 points to bring her career total to 999, she’d also grab 12 boards to complete the double double. Grace Scherr was also in double figures with 11 points along with 7 rebounds and 2 steals.
Sheyenne moves to 10-4 in The EDC while Valley City falls to 6-7.
Valley City will get a chance to rebound with a win Saturday when they host Fargo South. Tip off is set for 3:15.
