OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Both Oakes and LaMoure-Litchville/Marion (LLM) were coming off losses against Carrington and in need of a win. Oakes got that win on Thursday night with a 44-34 victory over LLM.

The game began with a sluggish offensive pace for both teams as they combined for just 15 first quarter points. Oakes had a 8-7 lead after one and that would be its smallest lead for the remainder of the game.

The Tornadoes burst into the 2nd quarter and went on a 15-3 run to close the half behind a stifling defensive performance. Their run would carry over into the 2nd half as they capped the entire run off by outscoring LLM 22-5. Oakes was able to cruise to the victory despite a late push by LLM to get it to within 10 points.

Oakes head coach Brennan Hack was very pleased with his team’s performance tonight.

Nicole Schmitz was the leading scorer again with 18 points, Sadie Hansen racked up 15 points and Lynsey Schmitz added 7 points.

LLM’s leading scorer was Molly Musland with 13 points.

With just three regular season games left, Oakes will welcome in Medina-Pingree/Buchanan on Saturday for a 2:30 tip.
