WISHEK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- On the tail end of a back-to-back stretch, the Tornadoes girls basketball team had no problems defeating South Border 65-29 Saturday afternoon.
With the win Oakes has now won five games in a row dating back to before Christmas break. Oakes has been blowing its opponents out during the five-game stretch with an average margin of victory of over 34 points per game.
Similar to other four wins during the streak, the Tornadoes used a big first quarter to propel themselves to victory. Their defense held the Mustangs to just four 1st quarter points, and similar to last night, it took their opponents over five minutes to find the scoreboard.
The lead at halftime was 16 points, and Oakes came out red hot in the 2nd half to outscore South Border 21-5 to cruise to the 36 point victory.
Oakes’ leading scorer was Lynsey Schmitz with 17 points and couple made 3-pointers. Jaida Seyer and Sadie Hansen both tacked on 14 points, as well.
Next time out for the Tornadoes will be Monday night as they travel to Gwinner to take on Milnor/North Sargent.
