VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Kameron Selvig scored 13 of her team high 16 points in the second half as Jamestown slipped by Valley City 65-59 in girl’s basketball Saturday night at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.

Selvig hit two key three pointers as part of an 11-0 run by the Jays in the second half to take a nine point lead.

The Hi-Liners used a 9-0 run early in the first half to take a 17-12 lead. And led by as much as nine before Jamestown’s 7-0 run to close out the first half made it 33-31. Taryn Dieterle scored 13 of her game high 19 points in the first 18 minutes.

But Jamestown’s pressure defense and cold shooting by Valley City was the difference in the second half. At one point the Hi-Liners were 3-21 shooting. They would hit six of their last nine shots but it was too late.

Dieterle was 13-13 from the free throw line and had five steals. Lindsey Noeske had the double-double with 12 points and  14 rebounds. Grace Scherr had nine points and five rebounds. Josie Berntson and Jadyn Dieterle had eight points each. Berntson had five rebounds and Dieterle added eight assists.

Courtney Peterson had 13 points and eight rebounds for Jamestown. Katherine Horgan and Grace Hegerle had 10 points each, Hegerle had eight rebounds and Horgan had five. Ella Falk had nine points off the bench and Jessa Anderson scored seven points and had five steals.

The Jays are now 4-2 on the year. They will host Williston in an WDA matchup next Friday. Valley City falls to 5-4 and will travel to Grand Forks Central for an EDC game next Friday.

On the boy’s side, Jamestown scored the first 12 points of the game and never looked back on the way to an 86-28 win over the Hi-Liners.

Boden Skunberg and Mason Walters scored 24 and 22 points respectively. They were the only two Jays in double figures. Walters also had a team high nine rebounds. Jared Kallenbach added five assists for the second ranked Blue Jays.

Jared Eggermont led the Hi-Liners with nine points. Sam Bierele added six points and Avery Bennefeld chipped in five.

Jamestown improves to 6-0 on the year and will host Williston next Friday night. Valley City falls to 1-7 and will host Grand Forks Central next Friday night.
