FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The Hi-Liners started slow and ended strong in their 71-56 win against Fargo North Friday night at The Spartandome. Taryn Dieterle scored a season high 35 points to lead the charge in the come from behind victory.
Right out of the gate The Spartans took control of the court, they scored 4 straight and wouldn’t trail for the first 17 minutes. Twice North would lead by 11, the last time at 25-14. VCHS kept pace by capitalizing on their free throw attempts going 11 for 15.
The Hi-Liners finally managed to the tie it up at 29 with 1:46 left in the opening half. Josie Berntson’s free throw with 44 second on the clock put Vally City in front and they would not trail the rest of the night, leading 32-29 at the intermission. Twentyone of Dieterle’s 35 points came in the first half.
Coach Jimmy Howard felt it was a matter of time before his team overcame the slow start
Valley City scored 8 straight to begin the final 18 minutes and would outscore North 39-27. Lindsey Noeske found the hot hand in the second half scoring 18 points.
Taryn Dieterle pulled down 10 boards for a double double, Noeske had 8 boards. Grace Scherr scored 12 points with 9 steals and 6 rebounds.
The Spartan’s were led by Maddy England with 20 points, she drained 5 3 pointers. Jennie Sem had a double double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. They turned the ball over 37 times.
Coach Howard felt the defense had one of their best showings of the year
North is now 1-4 in The EDC while Valley City is 3-3. The Hi-Liners are off until next Friday when they host Davies.
