JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Earlier this month, the Stutsman County Commission was approached by a team of attorney’s asking if they would like to join their ongoing litigation with several others across the nation.
The commission was informed that the team had been working with counties nationwide as they continue gaining political subdivision support in the litigation. The county would be able to use any settlement funding to alleviate costs associated with opioid addiction.
During their Tuesday meeting, Auditor Nicole Meland informed the commission that she was contact by the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office asking how they would move forward with the information.
Commissioner Dave Schwartz says he recommended sticking with the Attorney General and their work on the litigation.
Commissioner Ramone Gumke says comparing Stutsman County to other counties, there isn’t as much history and expense regarding the opioid problem.
Commission Chairman Mark Klose says the county isn’t out anything if they choose either the attorney’s or the state Attorney General.
The commission voted unanimously to leave the litigation to the state and the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office.
