BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Law enforcement agencies across the state are currently engaged in their Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol along with local police departments and sheriff’s offices are seeing an alarming number of DUI arrests in the first 4 days of the campaign. Sgt. Wade Kadrmas is with the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Sgt. Kadrmas says the increased enforcement is always on the lookout for any signs of impaired driving.
NDDOT Public Information Specialist Ashlee Doan says they have announced a grant has been received through the Governor’s Highway Safety Association and a partnership with Lyft, a ride-hailing service available statewide.
The vouchers are available while they last and the promotion will run through December 31st, which is also the end of the Drive Sober campaign.
Doan says its important that people choose to find a safer way home than to drive impaired, especially around the holidays.
In North Dakota in 2017, approximately 1 in 6 adult arrests were for DUI and about 50% of motor vehicle fatalities were alcohol-related.
