OAKES, N.D.- (NewsDakota.com)- The girls game was a route as the Tornadoes obliterated the Leola-Frederick Titans 81-18. The boys game was much closer as the Titans won 71-53.

Girls: Oakes 81, Leola-Frederick 18

For the second time this season Oakes held its opponents to under 20 points en route to winning by more than 60 points.

Eight different Tornadoes scored and three of them reached double digits. Nicole Schmitz finished with a team high 23 points. Sadie Hansen finished with 13 points and Lynsey Schmitz finished with 12 points. Claire Wagner also added at least six steals and impacted the game tremendously on both sides of the floor.

Anna Lepka was the only Titan to score double digits and she finished with 11.

Next game for Oakes will be Thursday night against Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier.

Boys: Oakes 53, Leola-Frederick 71

In what was a two possession game early in the 4th quarter, the Tornadoes crumbled down the stretch and lost 71-53.

The Tornadoes found themselves playing catch-up for the entire 2nd half and were able to pull it with a couple buckets multiple times.

Drew Dethlefsen was the leading scorer for the Tornadoes with 21 points. In just his second game back, Garret Meehl finished with 12 points and Steele Hansen, making his season debut, finished with 10 points and a couple 3-pointers.

Leading scorer for Leola-Frederick was post-man Tanner Geffre with 18 points.

Oakes’ last game before winter break is this Friday at Wyndmere-Lidgerwood.
