VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- With less than 10 minutes left in the game, Valley City led Devils Lake 48-31 and seemed on their way to their first EDC win, then The Firebirds got hot. They would outscore The Hi-Liners 35-13 to mount a 67-59 come from behind victory.

The night started slow for both teams, Valley City’s first 4 points came from the free throw line. It wasn’t until with 9:20 left in the opening  half would they get their field goal, it tied the game at 6. Once they pulled in front they would run their advantage to 25-14 with 1:55 left. Devils Lake went on a run to go into the half but still trailed 27-23.

Teams went back and forth in the opening minutes of the second half. Behind 12 points from Peyton Zaun, Valley City began pulling away. Grant Nelson helped sway the momentum for The Firebirds. He would eventually drain a 3 that tied the game at 54 and on the next possession put them front for good.

Nelson would end up with 27 points as the game’s top scorer. Josh Dahle and Jacob Green both had 11 for Devils Lake.

Peyton Zaun led The Hi-Liners with 17 points. Mitchel Taylor had 15 and Drew Zaun 9.

Valley City falls to 1-4 and 0-4 in The EDC. Friday they host Fargo North.
