VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The historic Power House on east main in Valley City will be razed in December.

KLJ engineer Chad Petersen said crews will begin the demolition work the first week of December.

Petersen added that the contractor working on the permanent flood protection project has a few items to take care of before shutting down for the winter.

The city commission approved a change order for Phase II of the permanent flood protection project including the additional cost for concrete paving and to demolish the power house in the amount of $144,093 at their regular meeting on November 20.

In the summer of 2018, the Power House received a crack on the east side of the structure after a construction crew drove steel sheeting into the ground. The sheeting, driven into the ground is part of the foundation for the future concrete flood walls.
