VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Barnes County 4-H award banquet was held on Sunday, November 18 at the Eagles Club. The Barnes County 4-H Leader’s Council awarded KOVC-i3G Radio, Valley City Times-Record, and Tammy Jacobson as “Friends of 4-H.” The “Friends of 4-H” award recognizes a person or organization whose leadership, actions, and support have contributed to the improvement and promotion of the Barnes County 4-H Youth Development Program.

KOVC is a long-time supporter of 4-H. For them, enrichment of today’s youth is not just a priority—it’s a passion. The Barnes County 4-H Program is an essential part of youth development, and they are proud to say that they stand behind our

4-Hers. Steve Urness accepted the award on behalf of KOVC, the local radio station, and all who continue to hard behind the microphone to promote our 4-H youth.

The Times-Record newspaper was also given the “Friends of 4-H” award for being a partner, whose generous support enables 4-H to flourish in Barnes County. The T/R prints many stories that shows

4-H’s opportunities to impact an individual’s character and their relationships in their work and community. Tina Olson accepted this award for the Barnes County newspaper.

In addition, the 4-H Leader’s council presented Tammy Jacobson, NDSU-Barnes County Extension Administrative Assistant, with a “Friend of 4-H” award. Susan Milender, Extension Agent, stated that Jacobson “truly understands how Barnes County 4-H provides for life learning experiences, leadership training, and educational opportunities for our county’s youth.”

4-H was founded on the belief that when kids are empowered to pursue their passions and chart their own course, their unique skills grow and take shape, helping them to become true leaders in their lives, careers, and communities. In Barnes County, more than ninety 4-H youth and forty volunteers from the community are involved in 4‑H.
