JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – North Dakota based artist Bob Matz considers himself to be a prairie realist painter.
His artwork makes it from the prairie to the Jamestown Arts Center through December 11th. The gallery is called Figments which the Arts Center says “reflects feelings about culture, humor and history of the prairie.”
Education Coordinator Myra Olson says his paintings capture moments in time and uses layers of color and texture to capture different scenes.
Matz was born in North Dakota and studied at the University of North Dakota where he received his BS in art education and an MFA in painting and drawing. He launched his career as an art educator in 1978 when he was placed in Bismarck as the first visual artist in residence with Arts in the Schools Program through the North Dakota Council on the Arts.
An exhibit lunch will be held December 5th with artist Robert Matz to hear about his work and the current exhibition.
The Jamestown Arts gallery is open Weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM. Admission is free.
