JAMESTOWN, N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – If the University of Jamestown football team was looking to make a statement with its first offensive possession Saturday afternoon, the message was heard loud and clear.
The Jimmies took the opening kickoff and went 72 yards in eight plays, scoring the first of six touchdowns on the day in a 41-39 win over Hastings (Neb.) in Great Plains Athletic Conference action.
Jamestown recorded season highs in points (41) and total offense (502) while earning its first-ever road GPAC victory.
UJ found the end zone on four of its five first-half possessions to take a 27-18 lead at halftime. The Jamestown scoring drives covered 72, 67, 63, and 80 yards.
Jordan Mann (JR/Bismarck, N.D.) passed for 189 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a career-high 126 yards and two scores to lead the offense. Allen Jevning (SO/Brainerd, Minn.) carried 23 times for 111 yards and added a two-yard rushing touchdown.
Barry Williams Jr. (FR/Las Vegas, Nev.) and Nick Thompson (JR/Max, N.D.) each had a touchdown reception among their three catches. Marcus Giles (FR/Blaine, Minn.) also had three grabs and added a rushing touchdown.
Aundre Purnell (SO/Garden Grove, Calif.) and Caleb Ellingson(SR/Jamestown, N.D.) led the defense with seven total tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Jamestown (3-7, 2-6 GPAC) finishes the season at home next Saturday against No. 1 Morningside (Iowa) at 12:00 p.m.
