OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It has been nearly two generations ago since the Oakes high school football team has been this playing this late into the season. Saturday, the Tornadoes travel to Thompson to take on the top ranked Thommies in the State semifinals.

Following an exciting 42-34 win over Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter, the Tornadoes will take a 10-1 record and six game winning streak into Saturday’s contest. They avenged that one loss on Saturday. Now they have a chance to avenge a loss that ended their season in 2017, a 41-7 decision in Thompson.

Oakes head coach Greg Dobitz says the Thommies are successful for many reasons, but one stands out above the rest.

Thompson averages about 100 yards per game more than Oakes and Dobitz says one of the keys for Saturday is keeping the ball away from the Thommies offense.

Dobitz says he and his team knew this could be a special season as far back as this past spring.

Kickoff is set for 2pm Saturday with the pregame at 1:30 on 1220 AM/95.9 FM The Tornando and newsdakota.com.
