VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUVikings.com) – Freshman Katie Juarez pounded out 11 kills Friday night and the Viking volleyball team extended its winning streak to five matches with a three-set victory over Waldorf University.

Valley City State rolled to a clean sweep by scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-18 in the North Star Athletic Association conference match.

VCSU is now 13-10 overall and 6-3 in the North Star Athletic Association, securing its grip on the No. 3 spot in the NSAA standings. Waldorf University drops to 5-17 overall and 2-7 in the NSAA.

Waldorf led most of the first set Friday, including a 20-18 advantage late after a kill from Kyra Platzek. The Vikings tied the match at 21-21 after a kill by Juarez and two from Paige Benson. Three errors by Waldorf gave VCSU a 24-21 lead and then Kylie Erickson finished off set one with a service ace for the Vikings.

VCSU controlled set two from the start, building an early 7-1 lead and going up by as many as 10 points at 22-12 en route to the 25-16 win. Set three was more of the same with VCSU taking control early with a 5-1 advantage and going up 16-6 at one point. VCSU led 24-18 when Juarez painted a kill down the line to close out the match. The Vikings hit .290 in the second set and .243 in the third set.

Valley City State held a .216 to .103 advantage in hitting percentage. VCSU finished with 36 kills and 14 errors. Waldorf totaled 28 kills and 16 attacking errors. VCSU also had a big advantage in the serving game. The Vikings finished with nine aces and seven errors, while Waldorf had four aces and 10 errors. Waldorf held a 6-4 advantage in blocking.

Juarez led VCSU’s attack with 11 kills, two errors and a .375 hitting percentage. Sophomore Paige Benson had a big match as well with nine kills and a .250 hitting percentage. Hailie Wilds led the back-row defense with 20 digs and Charlotte Huschka added 10 digs. Erickson served up four aces, and Leah Ruter posted 17 assists, three kills and two aces. Reagan Ingstad finished with 13 kills and eight digs.

Sarah Williams led the balanced Warrior attack with seven kills, and Kyra Platzek added six kills and 11 digs. Setter Elisabeth Tramm had a strong all-around match with 19 assists, 10 digs and three kills.
