OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A 30 point second quarter propelled the Oakes High football team to an impressive 59-6 victory at Cummings Field on homecoming night against South Border Friday night.

The Tornadoes (6-1, 4-1 Region III) were up 7-0 after the first, but poured it on in the second frame, thanks in large part to Ashton Biesterfeld, who netted himself a sack resulting in a safety, and was the receptiant of a 33 yard touchdown pass from Garret Meehl in the final minute of the opening half.

Oakes had a 43-0 lead at the end of the third before the Mustangs (0-6, 0-5) scored their lone touchdown of the game on a 30 yard run by Mark Jochim.

With the win, Oakes has secured a first-round playoff home game, and as the number two seed out of Region III, will host the fourth seed out of Region II on Saturday, October 13.

The regular season finale for both teams is Friday, October 5. South Border welcomes Kidder County to Wishek, while Oakes heads west to meet Strasburg/Zeeland in Strasburg. Coverage on The Tornado KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 6:30, with kickoff at 7 p.m.
