SANBORN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Barnes County farmer Chad Wendel has been getting a lot of questions about a tall structure he has on his property about 5 miles east of Sanborn along old Highway 10.

Some are calling it the lighthouse on the prairie because of it’s shape. But Wendel said it’s a 94 foot high grain dryer. He said due to our gusty wind in North Dakota it took the crew from Illinois about 30 days to finish it. He said more grain bins will be erected at the same site in the future.

He and reporter Steve Urness climbed up the dryer to get a good view and a few photos high above the prairie. Wendel talked about why he decided to build the grain dryer and grain bin storage site at that location in Barnes County.

Barnes County farmer Chad Wendel is the owner of the new grain dryer and future grain bin storage site.
