Rugby, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington football team rolled to a 48-12 victory over Rugby despite turning the ball over 6 times (all fumbles). The Cardinals racked up 483 total yards of offense and Seth Nelson had another big game throwing for 291 yards and 4 TD passes and also had a TD run. Nelson, a 6’5 junior has completed 17 of 21 passes in the past 2 games for 485 yards and 8 TD passes. Trey Rosenau was his favorite target in Rugby as the senior tide end hauled in 5 receptions for 185 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Rosenau’s first TD was a 77 yard connection from Nelson giving the Cards a 8-0 lead after a Lucas Geiszler run on the 2-point conversion. Drew Page added 4 receptions out of the backfield for 83 yards and a TD. Page also rushed for a game high 133 yards on 21 carries and another score. Payton Smith grabbed a pair of catches for 23 yards and a score for the Cards. The offense finished with 192 rushing yards and 291 passing yards overall. The negative for Carrington, 7 fumbles, losing 6 of them to the Panthers. The fumbles were the only thing that stopped the Cardinal offense as they did not attempt  a punt in the game.

The Panthers couldn’t get anything going on the ground, rushing for 2 yards on 30 carries. The Cardinals dominated the line of scrimmage, but the Panthers did have some success throwing the pigskin. Junior quarterback Jaden Hamilton completed 8 of 23 passes for 150 yards and 2 TD passes and also threw 1 interception. Devan Michels hauled in 5 catches for 106 yards and 2 TD. Michel’s 78 yard TD reception late in the third quarter was the longest play of the game. Cory Mattern added 2 catches for 46 yards. Rugby drops to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in Region 2. The second ranked Cardinals improved to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in Region 2 play. Carrington will host Langdon-Edmore-Munich next Friday night at Stadium ’76 in Carrington.
