JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public Works Committee met in their regular meeting Thursday afternoon. City Councilwoman Pam Phillips was not present.

Acting City Engineer Travis Dillman came before the committee to update them on the different projects happening around the community. Dillman stated that the major water main project in the Northwest was wrapping up with a few asphalt patches to take place. He says the work on the 12th Street NE sidewalk is nearing completion and the Menards to JRMC road is completed.

Dillman said that the tree snagging project was also completed and they would begin looking at other funding sources to complete the rest of the river.

Dillman says another phase of the project includes a grant application through the North Dakota Emergency Management, which is also a part of FEMA. He says that would be for bank restoration.

Dillman also says the Frontier Village wall just needs to be coated and that will be completed too.

Later, Ralph Friebel with the Recycling North Dakota Center came before the committee to give an update on the Recycling Plant.

Friebel says once they’re moved in, they’ll look to begin sorting and everything else at the old Coke plant in another 2 or 3 weeks.

An update was also given on garbage and recycling collection. Sanitation Foreman Roger Mayhew informed the committee that he had been talking with five other cities in North Dakota on their pickup situations and found that most of them were also trying to get away from alleyway pickup.

Mayor Dwaine Heinrich voiced his displeasure with the progress of figuring the situation out.

City Administrator Sarah Helleckson reminded the committee that they were looking at holding an open house for residents to bring their questions and concerns. There will be maps and more available once the open house is set.
