JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Police Department is encouraging individuals who want to learn more about what they do to join the Citizen’s Academy this fall.

Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger says in today’s world, there are a lot of misunderstandings and misinformation about police and what they do. That’s why the citizen’s academies were created.

While the academy isn’t a police training, it does open the door for interested participants to get a taste of what it takes.

The 10-week course will feature a variety of topics including:

-Firearms
-Traffic Stops
-Pursuits
-DUI
-Criminal Investigations
-SWAT
-Use of Force
-Taser
-Equipement Tours and more

Chief Edinger says this course has been held with great success in multiple other communities.

Chief Edinger says he hopes the first academy is successful. He says if it is, they will make plans to hold the academy annually with the next class in Spring 2019.

Those interested are asked to register for the courses by Friday, September 14th. You can visit the Jamestown Law Enforcement Center for an application. The course is free.
