DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Devils Lake couple is encouraging Valley City residents to protest their concerns over the proposed Grand Prairie Agriculture hog farm that would be built about less than one-half-a-mile near the shores of Devils Lake.

Robert and Colleen Joy of Devils Lake claim animal waste from a 2,500 head hog lot could be pumped into the lake if the North Dakota Department of Health approves a permit to the owners.

Spirit Lake Tribal leaders are also opposed to the project. The hog farm would be constructed 10 miles west and 1 mile north of Devils Lake.

The management consultant for the project is Pipestone Systems. The same company is proposing to build a hog farm near Buffalo, N.D.

Two public input meetings will be held on Wednesday, September 12th in Devils Lake. The first will be at 1pm in the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort and the second will be at 5:30pm at Lake Region State College in Devils Lake.
