GRAFTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Friday night was a long time coming for The VCHS Football Team, to find their last win you’d have to go back to October 7th, 2016 when they routed Central Dakota 60-14 at Hanna Field. That season ended on back to back losses and the winning drought would extend to 13 games heading into Grafton.
The Hi-Liners played consistent offense and defense for 4 quarters and forced running time against The Spoilers in a commanding 32-0 victory. Coach Scott Roehrich says heading back to Valley City as winners is a feeling the team has been working for
It took nearly the whole first quarter for Valley City to find the end zone, with 38 seconds left Kael Grebel pushed the ball across the goal line on a 2 yard carry. The 2 point conversion attempt came up short.
The lead at the half went up to 20-0 after Tate Sufficool connected with Avery Bennefeld for a 51 yard strike and Sam Payne ran in a 2 yard score. After the Payne’s touchdown Sufficool found Sam Beierle for a 2 point conversion.
Valley City scored once in each of the final 2 quarters with both touchdowns coming from Sufficool. The 12 points were also the direct result of interceptions, one by Derrek Diegel and one by Riley Gerhardt.
Sufficool complete 4 of 8 attempts with a touchdown and 91 yards. Payne was the lead rusher with 202 yards on 27 carries.
