Westhope, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)——The Carrington Cardinals scored on the first play of the night and cruised to a 48-0 victory over Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn (WNG). The Cardinals took the opening kickoff back for an apparent 85 yard touchdown return from Trey Rosenau, but the play was penalized and Carrington started at their own 48 yard line. Drew Page took the first Cardinal offensive play of the night 52 yards for a touchdown and a Lucas Geiszler 2-point conversion run made it 8-0 Cards , 15 seconds into the game. Page would score again with 7:03 to play in the first quarter on an 8 yard run. Seth Nelson would add a successful 2-point conversion on a QB keeper. Nelson would add a pair of touchdown passes as well, 2 yard strike to Payton Smith and a 20 yard connection with Drew Page. Nelson added his fifth interception of the season and also recovered a fumble in the contest. Nelson completed 4-6 passes for 38 yards and 2 TD, and also had 2 carries for 66 yards. Page had 8 carries for 90 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns, to go along with his receiving TD. Carrington scored all 48 points in the first half and held WNG scoreless and a total of 27 yards of total offense. Carrington put up 300 total yards of offense, 253 in the first half. Rosenau, who was denied a TD on the opening kickoff scored on an incredible defensive play, tipping a passed ball from WNG’s quarterback and catching his own deflected pass and racing35 yards into the end zone for a pick six.  The Cards have not allowed a point in 3 games to start the 2018 season and improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Region 2 play. WNG dropped to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in Region 2 play. Carrington will host Bottineau next Friday night for the Cardinals homecoming game.
