Coach’s Comments

What a difference a couple days make!  We upped our game considerably from Tuesday’s match.  As a team, we attacked the ball better, moved our feet better, and played our game better.

Blake is battling a cold and found a way to gut out two wins.  You could tell he was laboring on the court, but still made fantastic decisions on the court.  Jack figured out how to hit his approach shot today going to the net in probably 50% of his points.  He never let his opponent into the match.  Together, Jack and Blake played a fantastic first set in doubles before playing not to lose in the second set.  After WF forced the tiebreaker, Jack and Blake turned it on and played to win, dropping only two points in the tiebreaker.  Way to go.

Collin and Austin played in the only 3-set battle on the day.  We started the match hot and ended the match on fire.  Collin and Austin attacked the ball on the baseline and at the net.  Their feet were light between points and during points.  They swung free.  I knew Collin’s intensity was high when his shoes squeaked about twenty times in a single point.  It was the best set of doubles out of this pair!  Great job.

Austin and Bennett both had themselves a day on the singles court.  Between the two of them, they won 24 games while only dropping 5 games!  Both controlled the points by hitting solid with great footwork, belief and topspin.  They both moved their opponents around to then get short balls to attack.  They even came to the net when appropriate.  It was a complete game by both of these young men.

Derek lost his groove, but then figured it out when it was a little too late.  Derek is new to varsity competition, so every experience will help him improve.  We all have days like this, we just need to learn from it to be better next time.

Hale is also battling a cold and it took its toll on him today.  Hale is a great senior leader, leading  his teammates by example with his hard work, attitude, and care for them.  Shake this one off and shake off your cold – our team needs you and your leadership.

Overall, we learned lessons as a team today and still earned a team victory.  Great job.  I am proud of you guys!
