MOORHEAD, MN (VCSUVikings.com) – The Valley City State volleyball team rolled to a straight-set victory Wednesday night, going on the road and defeating Concordia College by scores of 25-9, 25-21, 25-19.
The Vikings started the night fast and set the tone early after opening up an 18-5 lead in set one. In set two, the teams were tied 12-12 before the Vikings rolled off eight straight points to build a commanding 20-12 lead. In set three, VCSU scored the first five points and never trailed en route to the clinching 25-19 victory.
Valley City State improves to 3-6 overall. The Vikings are back in action Friday and Saturday with three matches at the College of Saint Benedict Tournament in St. Joseph, Minn.
The Vikings dominated from the start Wednesday night, hitting .250 in set one and .207 for the match. VCSU finished the match with a 5-0 advantage in blocks.
Clarissa Olson and Paige Benson each finished with nine kills for the Vikings. Olson hit a blistering .529 in 17 attacks, not committing an attack error in the match. Benson hit .286 in 21 attacks. Autumn Johnson added six kills and a pair of blocks.
Leah Ruter had team highs of 19 assists and two service aces. Charlotte Huschka posted a team-high 12 digs.
Up next: Valley City State plays three matches in St. Joseph, Minn., this weekend, including a rematch with Concordia College on Saturday. VCSU will also face Simpson College on Saturday and College of Saint Benedict on Friday.
