OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- For the last several years, the Oakes High volleyball team has struggled and fallen short in their contests with LaMoure-Litchville/Marion.
In the Tornadoes home and District 5 opener, they exercised those demons and then some with a three sets to none victory over the three time defending Class B State Champions Thursday night.
Oakes (4-0, 1-0 District 5) won by scores of 25- 23, 25-21 and 25-16, with Nicole Schmitz registering 15 kills and five aces, and Marissa Garza picking up eight kills and an ace.
The Loboes (1-1, 0-1), who haven’t been swept in a best of five contest in nearly two years, had a team high 10 kills and four aces from Ellie Holen, while Ana Mart earned an ace and 10 digs.
Both teams are involved in the Central Cass Tournament Saturday in Casselton. LLM’s first home game is Tuesday, September 11 versus Ellendale, and Oakes hosts Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier Thursday, September 13. Coverage of Oakes and EKM can be heard on The Tornado KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starting around 7:15 p.m.
