ELLENDALE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – After serving just 88 percent and having eight service errors in their straight set win over Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier, head coach Jaci Connell made sure serving was a large part of practice in the last week. Thursday night it paid off as Medina-Pingree-Buchanan swept Ellendale 25-10, 25-10, 26-24 and had only two service errors in the process serving at a 97 percent clip.
Also the Thunder had 14 service aces, led by Alexis Vanderberghe with four. Megan Moser hit on all 16 serves with three aces. Gracie Bohl, Calli Mack and Amber VanEpps had two aces each.
Moser had the double-double with team highs 13 kills and 20 digs. Bohl also had a double-double with 10 set assists and 11 digs and added eight kills. Mack just missed the double-double with a team high 14 assists and nine digs. Vanderberghe had eight kills and 11 digs. As a team, the Thunder had 58 digs.
Katelyn Dathe led the Cardinals with five kills and a solo ace block. Taylor Krege had four kills and four set assists. Morgan Fisher had three kills and a solo ace block.
Medina-Pingree-Buchanan improves to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Region 3. They host South Border next Tuesday. Ellendale falls to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the region. They will participate in the Central Cass Tournament in Casselton on Saturday.
