JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Community Block party has become a large event focused on celebrating the community and welcoming in the new students to the University of Jamestown.

The Block Party was created with the newest students at the University of Jamestown in mind. Community organizations, businesses, churches, clubs and more set up a booth along Main Street in Jamestown on one day to give students and the community information about themselves.

Katie Roehm is a Block Party Committee member. She pointed out that the event has continued to grow in community participation over the past 11 years.

Roehm says a highlight of the event is when the new students come down the hill in a group as part of their student orientation. She says these students will be required to visit 6 booths and get a booklet signed showing they visited those booths.

University of Jamestown students make their way into the block party.

Roehm reports that 340 new students are expected to participate in the block party that will feature upwards of 110 booths.

“The Big Orange Pep Band will be coming down to play a few tunes around the time the students arrive so be on the lookout for that,” Roehm pointed out. “The event is such an important part of our welcome week for the new students because it allows them to network and get to know not just the University Community, but the Jamestown community as a whole.”

The Block Party will be August 30th from 5 to 8 PM in Jamestown.
