WYNDMERE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- After putting up 35 points in week one of the 2018 season, the Oakes High football increased that output by 22 Friday night; thumping past Wyndmere/Lidgerwood 57-14.
The Tornadoes (2-0) wasted little time in scoring first. On the first play from the line of scrimmage Hunter Greenmyer intercepted a pass for a touchdown.
Oakes would add three more scores in the first quarter, a 68 yard pass from Garret Meehl to Brackin Awender, and two rushing strikes by Logan Sell from 11 and three yards away.
To start the second quarter, Meehl had his second touchdown pass of the game, coming on fourth down and twenty-three yards to go to Ashton Biesterfeld.
Alex Nelson had a three yard run for a TD later on, and David Schmitz would score on runs of 56 and 50 yards to complete the offensive onslaught.
Wyndmere/Lidgerwood (0-2) would register a pair of touchdown runs from Lane Grasto in the fourth quarter to prevent the shutout.
Oakes enters Region III play on August 31, as they host Kidder County at Cummings Field. Coverage on The Tornado KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 6:30, with kick at 7 p.m.
