JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Jamestown is looking to hold several open houses regarding the proposal to eliminate solid waste collection in most residential alleys.
Recent discussion brought forth by Sanitation Department Foreman Roger Mayhew showed that crews had difficulty accessing some alleys for garbage collection. Mayor Dwaine Heinrich stated that the city should do preliminary work on the matter before hosting an open house.
Public Works Committee Chairperson Steve Brubakken asked Mayhew if his crew can mark alleys on a map where they would look to stop pickup and move to curbside pickup only.
City Administrator Sarah Helleckson says they are setting up an open house that would be available for residents to leave comments and concerns.
Helleckson says they would be sure either Mayhew or Recycle North Dakota owner Ralph Friebel were available at some hours to answer questions. No dates or times have been established yet, but will be announced as soon as they are.
Another item the committee worked on was public access to the city baler building. Mayhew says they’ve moved containers that were once outside have been moved inside the building.
Mayhew says they’ll look to create more permanent barriers to those who access the building.
In other Public Works news, the committee approved a three week extension to Scherbenske Inc. for construction on the NW Water Main Replacement Project. They also approved a change order to install underground piping from the storm water pond to the city storm sewer system in the Northeast on 5th Street.
Quiet zones will also be reinstalled by either Friday, August 31st or Tuesday, September 4th. Street Foreman Harold Sadd reported that all materials will be received at the time to fix the quiet zone that was damaged after a car accident there earlier this year.
