KULM, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) North Dakota U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp joined Xcel Energy representatives and other dignitaries for an official groundbreaking on the site of the Foxtail Wind Farm in the northwestern part of Dickey County Thursday morning.
The 20,000 acre farm, which Xcel says will produce 150 megawatts from 75 turbines, was purchased by Xcel from NextEra Energy Resources earlier this year. West Fargo-based Wanzek started construction in May, with work scheduled to be complete by the end of 2019.
Xcel estimates Foxtail will provide more than $30 million in payments to landowners over the life of the project and generate more than $20 million in additional revenue for state and local governments along with school districts.
In addition, Foxtail is set to create 200 construction jobs with about 10 full-time operations jobs upon completion of the project.
