LANGDON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Two more teams were eliminated on Saturday at the 2018 North Dakota American Legion Class B State Baseball Tournament. Velva and LaMoure lost, so that leaves a re-match from earlier in the tournament between Thompson and Carrington for the championship. Here are the results from day four:
Carrington 13 Velva 7 (elimination game)
Gunner Buskness hit a solo home run and Post 25 combined for 20 hits as they knock of the 39ers of Velva in the first game on Saturday afternoon at American Legion Field. All nine batters for Post 25 had at least one hit, third baseman Kyle Leapaldt was 3-for-5 at the plate with three doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. Lead-off man Jayden Shipman was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and scored three runs. Seth Nelson picked up the victory on the mound, Payton Smith worked two and a third in relief. Carrington has hit six home runs in the tournament so far and improves to 30-7 overall. Seth Fahy took the loss on the mound for Post 39, Velva ends their season at 25-9 and in fourth place.

Thompson 3 LaMoure 2
The game was scoreless through four innings, Post 19 scored the first two runs of the ballgame in the top of the fifth inning when Jace Hanson hit an RBI triple scoring Mac Bierman, later Hanson would score for the second run. Thompson’s Trey Larimer hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at two. In the home half of the seventh, Post 181 would win the game on a walk-off single by Tyler Hegg scoring Braeden Amborn for the winning run. Shay Ness took the loss, Lerimer was the winning pitcher. Lamoure ends their season at 17-12 and in third place. Thompson has hit four home runs total in the tournament.
16th year Head Coach J.R. Thielges for Post 19 joined the Q101 post game report after the game on Saturday and he said the game came down to just a couple of mistakes.
Lamoure was the number four seed heading into the Southeast region tourney back in July, but won four games in a row to win the championship at the region level in Lamoure.

4pm – repeat championship if Carrington wins first game (winner take all)
