WASHINGTON, D.C. (NewsDakota.com) – China’s government warned Wednesday it will retaliate if Washington imposes new trade penalties, following a report the Trump administration will propose increasing the tariff rate on an additional $200 billion of Chinese imports.
Bloomberg News reported, citing three unidentified sources, the Trump administration would propose imposing 25 percent tariffs on a $200 billion list of Chinese goods targeted in a new round of penalties, up from the planned 10 percent.
North Dakota U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp says she’s concerned as these trade war talks continue to escalate.
Heitkamp says her concerns remain with those in the nation who work with soybeans and their problems with finding a market for them.
Senator Heitkamp while China hasn’t been the best trade partner, she believes there’s a need to deescalate the trade war.
Heitkamp says the “chess game” continues to be unfair as America bares the brunt of the problem.
