VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Whether it is the World Series of Poker, the College World Series or the Major League Baseball World Series, you put World Series in a sentence, it is going to mean something big. And the Wiffle Ball World Series is no different.

The Sixth Annual Wiffle Ball World Series is set for this Saturday, July 28th at Shane Roberts Field in Valley City.

What started out as a discussion among friends and a modest eight team event, has turned into an 16 team extravaganza.

Trevor Christiansen, one of the co-founders of the WBWS, explains the beginning of the event.

So in 2013, Trevor, Chad Bergan and Pat Bresnahan put on the first WBWS. Since then it has grown to a huge event with pageantry and wiffle ball. Christiansen says this year is extra special because proceeds of this year’s sponsorships will be going to the Todd Heck Memorial Scholarship which was created by Jordyn Heck, a longtime participant in the WBWS.

This year’s WBWS will begin at 9am on Saturday with opening ceremonies that include a special guest singer for the National Anthem, dancers and a large flag provided by the North Dakota National Guard. Christiansen says, you need to be there to witness the spectacle.

Shane Roberts Field is located at 3578 Sheyenne Circle in Valley City and the Christiansen says you should be there by 8:30 to get ready for the opening ceremonies which start at 9am.
